What is orthodontics?

Orthodontics uses innovative appliances to straighten your teeth and align your bite. Your provider can offer appliances made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. Aligners are removable, while braces bond to your teeth.

These methods place gentle force in precisely controlled directions, slowly moving your teeth to their desired position.

You’ll benefit from orthodontic care if you have crooked, overlapped, twisted, or gapped teeth. With recent innovations in orthodontics and far less noticeable options, you can benefit from orthodontic care at any age.

Which types of orthodontics do you offer?

Smile Dental Clinic personalizes treatment plans to each patient’s budget, oral needs, and aesthetic goals.

Metal braces

Traditional metal braces are a popular, high-grade stainless steel option and more comfortable than ever before. They use metal brackets and archwires to straighten your teeth. You can also add colored elastics (rubber bands) to enhance their appearance.

Clear (ceramic) braces

Clear materials make up ceramic braces, making them less visible to others. Because they’re larger and more brittle than metal braces, ceramic braces require more attention to oral hygiene.

Gold braces

Gold braces are similar to other metal braces and involve stainless steel coated with gold.

Lingual braces

Lingual braces are fitted to the backs of your teeth and, therefore, “invisible.” Lingual braces are a great choice for adults, especially athletes, models, performers, and musicians.

Self-ligating braces

Made from the same materials as traditional braces, self-ligating braces don’t require the use of elastics. This leads to fewer appointments and less unwanted friction on your tooth. You can choose from metal, ceramic, or clear brackets.

Clear aligners

Clear aligners, like Invisalign®, are a series of invisible, comfortable, and removable acrylic trays. They straighten your teeth like braces, but you can take them out when you eat and drink. They’re also more convenient for brushing and flossing.

How long do orthodontics treatments last?

Your age, treatment appliance, and how severe your misalignment is will determine the length of your treatment. Teeth straightening typically takes one to three years.

For children, receiving interceptive, or early treatment, leads to shorter treatment times. The more involved in oral and orthodontic care you are, the quicker and more efficient your treatment will be.
